UPDATE: We recently added a video of Brewmaster Phil Leinhart talking about the inspiration behind Shadow Brewer. Check if out here. We have a brand new beer heading out to shelves and taps this month. Shadow Brewer is a 9.7% ABV imperial stout named for our night shift brewers. It’s the kind of beer they like to drink after working from 10 pm to 6 am. While the rest of the world is brewing coffee, these guys are settling down with a well-deserved cold one after a long nights work. Starting after nightfall and retiring at sunrise, shadow brewers are typically quiet and true professionals who labor though off hours bringing great beer to life. It can be a lonely task, with only a few compatriots, a well-chosen playlist, and tomorrow’s beer keeping company. In tribute to these oft-overlooked solitary souls, Ommegang is releasing Shadow Brewer, an imperial stout as dark and deep as a long Cooperstown winter’s night. The latest addition to the Brewmaster’s Obsession Series, Shadow Brewer, like its forebears, is a limited edition delving deep into the art and science of brewing. “ A Russian imperial stout is a beer style I have long wanted to explore” said Ommegang Brewmaster Phil Leinhart. “ I’ve been waiting for the right moment and the right inspiration. Once we cracked it, to me it only made sense that Shadow Brewer should honor our midnight brewers. As a veteran of many a nightshift during my early days in brewing, I can tell you this is the perfect beer to enjoy after working in the cold and dark all night.” A thick tan head tops the jet black brew as aromas of roasted malt, coffee, and chocolate give way to rich dark fruit notes. The taste is malty, roasted, and chocolatey with moderate hop bitterness. The finish is thick with oatmeal creaminess and pleasant lingering roast. Shadow Brewer is brewed with and hopped with Columbus, Styrian Golding, Northern Brewer, and.
The Seven Kingdoms is the name given to the realm that controls most of the continent of Westeros and numerous offshore islands, ruled by the King of the Andals and the First Men from the Red Keep in the city of King's Landing. Its name dates back to the time prior to the War of Conquest, during which seven independent kingdoms existed in the continent. The realm actually consists of nine distinct regions, the remaining two being formally established after the Conquest. History Edit See also War of Conquest When Aegon the Conqueror embarked on the conquest of the continent from his seat on Dragonstone he had to contend with seven independent realms. These were: Kingdom of the North, ruled by House Stark of Winterfell Kingdom of the Mountain and the Vale, ruled by House Arryn of the Eyrie Kingdom of the Rock, ruled by House Lannister of Casterly Rock Kingdom of the Stormlands, ruled by House Durrandon of Storm's End Kingdom of the Reach, ruled by House Gardener of Highgarden Principality of Dorne, ruled by House Martell of Sunspear. With the aid of his dragons, Aegon managed to conquer all of the kingdoms, except Dorne, which would join with his dynasty through marriage a century later. Houses Stark, Lannister and Arryn, which bent the knee to Aegon, were allowed to maintain their domains, no longer as Kings but as Lords Paramount of their respective regions - the North, the Westerlands and the Vale - and Wardens, subject to the authority of the King. With House Hoare eliminated, the kingdom ruled by Harren the Black was divided, with the people of the Iron Islands choosing House Greyjoy as their rulers, the lands surrounding the Trident awarded to House Tully as Lords Paramount of the Riverlands, and the lords of the lands surrounding the new capital of King's Landing as direct vassals to the Iron Throne. House Gardener was also obliterated when King Mern IX perished.
