Seth Meyers Just Unleashed the Best True Detective Send- Up Yet Before last night, the best audience participation game show segment on Late Night with Seth Meyers was probably “ Fake or Florida,” but after the introduction of “ Fortune Cookie or True Detective quot;,” it’s now a race for second place between all the other segments. It’s a spot-on indictment of the incoherent maelstrom taking over the second season. Meyers renames all the contestants with True Detective-appropriate characters like Artemis Bogdonavich, Bobby Pappallardo, and Deputy Sheriff Dick Blunt. The rounds are signaled by “the sound of a sad lounge singer singing a song that no one would ever want to hear in a bar” or “a lurking man in a bird mask” and the grand prize is “a creepy sex doll in a bowl of milk.” Maybe Meyers is onto something, or maybe he’s just such a huge Game of Thrones fan that he has to throw shade while another HBO show is going through a down year to make his favorite series look better by comparison.
